Who are The Pilar Fathers?

Our Mission:

The Pilar Fathers are members of a Society of Apostolic Life, whose very raison d’etre consists in actively introducing Jesus to all people, and sharing his teachings considered as ‘good news’ for wholesome human and social life, through the witness of life, and their activities. The Society is ‘Indian by birth’, barely 124 years old, and counts about 400 and odd members.

Our Work:

The Society has four Provinces – Kolkata, Goa, Mumbai and Delhi, and one Region (Agnel Region). The Society engages itself in works of social uplift and integral development of people without discrimination of caste, class or creed. The Society has its units in Jammu, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Daman, Diu, Nagar-Haveli. It has opened missions and parishes in foreign countries. The countries being Nepal, England, USA, Germany and Italy.

Our Activities:

Education is one of the major areas in which the members of the Society of Pilar serve. It runs several Educational institutions of all categories – Primary and Secondary Schools, Colleges, Technical and Engineering Institutions.
The Society which operates in small teams has other social welfare activities. They run orphanages, health centres and dispensaries, and several social outreach programmes in rural areas. At some units the members engage in programmes for the rehabilitation of migrant people, adult literacy classes, women welfare projects, etc. The projects also include the training of social workers, animators and leaders. The Society has also rendered voluntary service and provided aid in emergency situations caused by natural calamities like the earthquake in Bhuj in Gujarat, and the Tsunami in the Andamans, to name a few. Since the last couple of years, a novel project of mobile dispensary was started in Kolkata, coupled with daily serving of hot freshly-cooked food to people living on the streets of Kolkata.
